Use this template at the end of every shift to hand off priority alerts, open issues, and follow-ups in a format the next shift can act on immediately.

What to include

  • Priority alerts that need immediate attention
  • Open issues with a named owner and current status
  • Follow-ups the next shift must complete
  • Low-priority "for your information" notes that don't need action
  • An acknowledgment line so nothing is handed off silently

How CrewSignals replaces the static template

A downloaded template works until more than one shift needs it at once. CrewSignals keeps the same fields — priority alerts, open issues, follow-ups — as a structured, searchable record, with acknowledgment tracked automatically instead of chased down after the fact.

FAQ

What's the difference between a shift handover template and a shift report?

A handover template is written for the next shift — it prioritizes what they need to act on. A shift report is a record for management of what happened. Handovers point forward; reports look backward.

Should I use one template for every role?

Keep the fields but adjust the examples — a warehouse supervisor and a care-home nurse fill in the same "open issues" and "follow-ups" rows differently, but the structure holds.

How long should an open issue stay on the handover?

Until it's resolved. Carry it forward on every subsequent handover — don't let it silently drop off because a new one was written.

Excel or a shared doc — which is better?

Either works to start, but both break down once more than a few people search old handovers, because there's no acknowledgment record. That's the gap CrewSignals is built to close.
